HERD HISTORY
The Pedigree Herd was established in 1999
and 2000 with purchases from the Broadmeadows Dispersal, when
we purchased the two top selling cow/calf pairs. These have
proven to be sound purchases, with Eulyn U29 of the Moss being
one of our most successful females.
We also purchased nine cows and heifers at
the Keabog Dispersal. These were all from Wedderlie and Newcairnie
bloodlines and have established another three very productive
families, the Emily’s and the Princesses from Wedderlie
and the Bonita’s from Newcairnie.
Maiden heifers were purchased privately from
Rawburn (six), Auchterforfar (three, including the dam of
Galawater Excalibur B381) and Haulkerton (two). Families of
note from these purchases are the Philipas, Elises, Lady Ruths
and Ducheses from Rawburn, the Barbara Kims and Ermines from
Auchterforfar and the Mo Ericas from Haulkerton.
No more females were bought until February
2005 when we purchased a Blackbird embryo heifer from Penguin
in Perth. She was sired by the US sire “VRD” and
is out of Coldstream Blackbird 9G.
Most recently, at the “Blacks in the
Borders Sale” we purchased four of the top selling lots
including two Blackadder daughters from Wedderlie, one of
which is a full sister to their Stock Bull, Erixiad and the
other a member of their famous Poppy family (we now have three
branches of this superb line). We also bought the top selling
lot from Rawburn, a Transformer daughter, in calf to Rawburn
Extra Edition. The final addition was a very thick, powerful
and BQ Partnership’s top selling heifer. She was carrying
a pregnancy by their much fancied Stock Bull, Eastfield Freelance.
Over the years we have built up a good trade
selling Bulls and breeding heifers off farm and we plan to
continue to do so. However, in May 2005 we took the plunge
and offered our first bulls for sale by auction at Carlisle,
when we lifted the Supreme Championship and second top price
of the day with Galawater Lord Rupert C618, a son of HF Air-Walk
33F. The same summer we also showed for the first time when
we were awarded the Reserve Male Championship for our homebred
Stock Bull Galawater Excalibur B381 at the Royal Highland
Show. He then headed up the team of three Aberdeen-Angus which
won the Native Breeds Inter-Breed Teams Competition.
February 2006 saw us make our debut at the
famous Perth bull sales and sell our second prize Galawater
Bulldozer Kiwi for 6000gns.
The Perth bull sale in Februaury 2007 saw the
herd take a huge step forward when we lifted the Supreme
Championship with Galawater Bold King E925, a son of our stock
bull, Wedderlie Ebony B407 and out of our Barbara Kim family. He
then went on to sell for 15,000gns, one of the top prices of the
day.
